The Training Initiative, is offering individuals aged between 16 – 24 the opportunity to qualify in either Fitness or Security, through their ESFA funded programme.
Fitness cohorts are currently being run in Rugeley and Tamworth, but provision is expanding to North Staffs in early 2020! Courses are 3-6 weeks long and offer individuals the Level 2 NVQ Fitness instructing and Level 3 Personal Training qualifications upon completion.
Each learner also benefits from a free gym membership to either Anytime Fitness Tamworth or Anytime Fitness Rugeley for the duration of the course.
Jayne Mannox, Director at The Training Initiative says “Our courses are delivered by experienced fitness professionals who make the courses practical, fun and applicable to learners and their next steps.
We have seen a lot of uptake from learners who are wanting a career in the military as they feel fitness courses help prepare them for the physicality of those jobs. One of our trainers is a former soldier so we are able to set fitness targets in preparation for the physical assessments they face during selection.
Anytime Fitness have committed to interviewing all of our learners, which is fantastic, but even if they decide fitness isn’t for them, courses provide individuals with the opportunity to develop core employability skills and strengthen their CVs”.
Nathan Austin, a former learner from the Fitness programme, was not in education or employment when he heard about this programme. His goals were to finish the course, as he had never successfully completed a course prior.
Completing the course in August, Nathan said “I now have the confidence that I can finish anything I put my mind to. I struggled with my confidence in the gym, but now I feel more confident when I am in there. It has encouraged me to continue my journey”.
Now qualified, Nathan has the skills to work in a gym environment and has an impressive achievement under his belt.
The security programme is currently running for 3 weeks in Tamworth and Cannock but is expanding to North Staffs in early 2020! Each course fully qualifies individuals to work in security and includes Level 2 NVQ Spectator Safety, Level 2 Door Supervisor (DS), customer service and health and safety qualifications. Furthermore, learners who successfully complete the course will have their SIA license fully funded.
Stephen Moore, a former learner from the Security programme, was out of education and employment when he heard about this programme. His goals were to attend every single day and finish the course; which is something he has never done before.
Upon completing the course, Stephen has the qualifications, skills and experience to work in as a Steward or Doorman.
Since Stephen has completed the course, he said “I couldn’t be more grateful to the Training Initiative for giving me this opportunity. If I hadn’t plucked up the courage to sign up and come every day, I would be sat at home doing nothing, now I’m out working full-time and my confidence has grown beyond belief.”
The courses are available for individuals between the age of 16 – 24. To be eligible you must not be currently employed or in education/training. All course delivery is only available in the Staffordshire area at present.
